MEMBERS ONLY Traditional Yoga Class, Wed, March 18th, at 8:30 AM SVCT now offers members a traditional yoga class (in addition to our Chair Yoga). This practice includes movements on the floor as well as standing postures that scientific studies have shown improve flexibility, strength, balance, stress relief, and overall quality of life. Our class is gentle for seniors, featuring warmups, balancing exercises, and asanas (postures) that help you move more freely and feel refreshed. Maryann is a certified Kripalu yoga teacher with over twenty years of teaching experience, having studied many different schools of yoga in this country and in England. Wesleyan University Music Professor Roger Grant will discuss the Metropolitan Opera’s
production of Tristan und Isolde, which will be broadcast live in theaters on Saturday,
March 21. Professor Grant is a music theorist and cultural historian; his research
concerns eighteenth-century music, affect theory, and the history of music theory. He is
the author of two award-winning books, Peculiar Attunements: How Affect Theory Turned
Musical and Beating Time and Measuring Music in the Early Modern Era. He is currently
completing a new book on mission music in eighteenth-century Bolivia. Sponsored by

Art History Talk, Tuesday, April 7, 1:00 PM. The Golden Age of Spanish Painting and Collecting. Marcie Slepian, PhD. will discuss the most outstanding works in the Prado, focusing on Spanish art, art collecting by the monarchy, and some of the museum’s misfortunes. The program will feature the career of Diego Velázquez, explore the paintings and prints of Francisco Goya, and focus on Spanish still life paintings. Artistic treasures of the collection by the Flemish artists, Titian and Rubens, will be highlighted. Dr. Slepian has an A.B. from Brown University, a Ph.D. in Art History from Yale University, and has been an art educator in Connecticut for almost 40 years. She has lectured for the Shoreline Village and the Library for the past 10 years. Printmaking is one of her special interests.
